Did you know you can maximize LinkedIn for your charitable event in several ways? As famously said, “Let me count the ways”

Did you know you can maximize LinkedIn for your charitable event in several ways? As Elizabeth Barrett Browning famously said, “Let me count the ways.”

Set Up Your Event

The first thing you can do is to set up your event on LinkedIn. If you are a nonprofit, you would set it up on your nonprofit company page, but you could also set it up on your personal profile or business company page.

You will need an image for the event that is a 16×9 proportion. The event can be held online or in person. It can be a LinkedIn event (Live or Audio), or you can include an external link.

Aside from including the description information in the event, you also must also write content for the post. Feel free to have fun with emojis. I use emojipedia and copy and paste emojis into my content. At the end of my post, I create a “LinkedIn signature” before the hashtags.

I posted an example of an annual charity golf outing on July 15, 2024 for the Paoli Business & Professional Association that I posted on LinkedIn. You may have to be logged into LinkedIn to access it.

You can invite up to 1000 people weekly to the event by clicking on Share and Invite and Search by Name.

Share Your Event

Spread the word! When you click on the event and find the blue Share button, you will be able to share the event in several ways:

  • Repost
  • Message
  • Copy Link (which you can use in LinkedIn group posts, for example)
  • X Twitter
  • Facebook

Use Boolean Search to Enhance Event Visibility

First, you need to understand a Boolean search to know how it can benefit you, so read about Boolean Search Tips.

I searched the keywords golf and golfer in Paoli and Malvern and also the Greater Philadelphia Area and sent a bunch of first-level connections some direct messages to see if they might be interested.

There is also a Pickleball Tournament on the same day, so I searched for pickleball. However, I did not get as many hits as golf. I did send out some direct messages to folks who had that term in their profiles.

Give Your Sponsors Recognition

If your sponsors have LinkedIn company pages, you can tag them. Hopefully, your Board members and volunteers have LinkedIn profiles to engage. Not all of ours do.

If you would like to see the start of the recognition for sponsors for the golf tournament, check out the Paoli Business & Professional Association company page. We had no access to the old company page so we had to restart a new one.

Our silent auction donors will also receive recognition, though some may come after the event. You might know how hectic it is scrambling to put baskets together at the 11th hour, but you will get recognized!

Take Pictures at the Events and Create a Carousel

What’s a carousel, you ask? You can create it on many platforms, though Canva is very popular.

Here is an example of a carousel from the Phillies Game group event. Click in the middle on the right side of the image to advance to the next photo. The carousels are saved in the Documents folder instead of being pushed down in the feed.

A carousel will provide a different look than uploading up to nine (9) photos from an event.

Father’s Day Bonus

On Father’s Day 2005, I lost everything in my life to fire, pets included. Here’s my story, so I have three tips for you.

  1. I had depreciated value insurance instead of replacement value, so I recommend that you review your insurance policy, as my situation was financially devastating.
  2. If you have not yet bought a Father’s Day gift, consider buying dad a day of golf if you are local to Chester County, PA, or support another charitable golf or sporting event in your area.
  3. If Dad is no longer with you, consider making a donation in his memory to a charity that was important to him or to your local fire company. They are there for you and the community 24/7/365 and NEVER have enough funding.
