Philly Has 2 of Pennsylvania’s Best Ice Cream Parlors
Ice cream is one of Pennsylvania’s favorite desserts, so much so that Pennsylvania ranks among the top 12 states in ice cream consumption, writes Damon Zemlak for East Coast Traveler.
Among the best ice cream parlors in Pennsylvania, two of which are located in Philadelphia.
The first is The Franklin Fountain in Old City, which offers a nostalgic taste of the past.
Its classic soda fountain serves a variety of authentic flavors, as you can sample rum, root beer, whiskey, and chocolate fudge.
There is also Bassett’s Ice Cream, a popular Philly location with more than 40 flavors, inside Reading Terminal Market.
Whether in a cone, cup, or container, flavors range from vanilla to strawberry to coconut.
Bassett’s has been a Philadelphia institution for over a century, and its ice cream is made by Galliker’s Dairy, a third-generation family-owned business in Johnstown.
Opened in 1861, the family that started the business still runs the company to this day.
Their ice cream is known for its rich and creamy flavor, as it uses butterfat instead of egg yolks.
The company also sells novelty items and specialty shakes.
