Eric L Zagar, a law partner at Kessler Topaz in Radnor, was surprised when he got a 2021 letter barring him from participating in games, concerts, and other events at Madison Square Garden, writes Kris Rhim for The New York Times.

His firm was involved in litigation over the merger of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp and Madison Square Garden Networks. Attorneys involved in the litigation were banned until the litigation was resolved.

“This has never happened to me or anyone I know,” said Zagar. “It was shocking and kind of hilarious and ridiculous.”

Now Larry Hutcher, managing partner at David Hutcher & Citron LLP, is going through the same thing.

He’s held season tickets to the Knicks games since the 1970s.

He’s representing 24 ticket resellers in a lawsuit against Madison Square Garden Entertainment so it has barred all 60 of his firm’s lawyers from the venue.

Both bans are based on a New York State Bar Association rule prohibiting anyone involved in litigation with Madison Square Garden from talking to Madison Square employees about the ongoing litigation.

Hutcher’s firm is suing Madison Square Garden Entertainment over its interpretation of the bar association rules.
