The Delaware County Symphony will be performing a concert celebrating Russia’s long history of classical music on Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m.

The concert, titled “Pictures of Russia”, will showcase pieces by some of the country’s greatest 19th and 20th Century composers.

Nina Vieru

This is the third symphony concert of the season.

It begins with the overture to Dmitry Kabalevsky’ s opera Colas Breugnon. Composed in 1937, the overture contains colorful orchestral sounds with melodies ranging from serene to rollicking.

The performance will include the overture to Colas Breugnon by Dmitry Kabalevsky, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto (featuring soloist Nina Vieru), and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.

The next work on the program features DCS concertmaster Nina Vieru in Tchaikovsky’s brilliant violin concerto.

The concert concludes with the great Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. Inspired by the artwork of Viktor Hartmann, and arranged for orchestra by Maurice Ravel, this music has endured as one of Mussorgsky’s most beloved and performed works.

The concert will be performed in the Meagher Theater at Neumann University. Tickets can be purchased before the event as well as by clicking here.

Delaware County Symphony wants to keep both orchestra and audience members as safe and healthy as possible, which is why DCS is asking all concert attendees to wear a face mask when inside the theater regardless of vaccination status.

The Delaware County Symphony is a charter member of the Arts Guild at Neumann University, formed in 1991 to enhance the cultural programming available to the Delaware Valley community.
