Wipfli, one of the nation’s 20 largest accounting and consulting firms, has acquired GPCD Partners in Media, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 10-person firm became part of Wipfli on Dec. 1.

The acquisition gives Milwaukee-based Wipfli 90 Philadelphia-area employees, including 40 CPAs.

GPCD’s one partner, John Papandon, has known one of the partners at Wipfli for many years.

Papandon was looking for a larger firm with more resources and was introduced to Brad Baturka, Mid-Atlantic leader for Wipfli.

Baturka said GPCD has “some really interesting clients” similar to Wipfli’s.

GPCD clientele is mostly private mid-market businesses. GPCD has a focus on physician practices and professional services like investment and engineering firms.

“We’ve known of John, the firm and some of his team for years so we know that culturally this will be a great combination,” Bartuka said.

Papandon said joining Wipfli allows his firm to “provide our clients with more holistic strategies and solutions to help minimize risk and create more opportunities for success.”

Wipfli has been in the Philadelphia market since January 2015, when it acquired the Media-based, 80-employee Elko & Associates.
