Professional Dealer Brings His Unique Brand of Texas Hold’Em to Delco Taverns
Butch Cordora has brought his bar poker dealership skills and style to Delaware County, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
The openly gay professional dealer has run bar poker at clubs and restaurants for 15 years.
Now you can find him running his “Bluffin’ w/Butch” Texas Hold’Em tournaments Sunday afternoons at Chaser’s Tavern in Folcroft and Wednesday evenings at Ram’s Pizza Tavern in Clifton Heights.
Cordora brings his lighthearted humor and showmanship to the game. There’s no charge to play.
“Believe it or not, with the way I enjoy card competitions, I’m not really into gambling myself,” he said.
He started hosting Poker Nights in Philadelphia’s Gayborhood, then at South Street’s Irish bars in 2008.
Today, he runs games in New York City and Washington, D.C.
Cordora has attracted a diverse group of players, gay and straight.
“And the notion that these two bars (Chaser’s Tavern and Ram’s Pizza Tavern) in this historically blue-collar county have welcomed us and even embraced us is, I think, kind of a phenomenon,” he said.
He still works part-time as a home health care aide but hopes to one day host poker tournaments full time.
