Pennsylvania ranks seventeenth in the nation based on annual crude oil production, according to a recently released report from Commodity.com.

The COVID-19 pandemic made for a troublesome time for oil and other utilities, as well as factoring in the economy.

To determine the states that produce the most oil, Commodity.com used U.S. Energy Information Administration data to calculate the total annual crude oil production in 2020.

The analysis found that the Keystone State produced 5.5 million barrels of crude oil in 2020, out of the more than 4.1 billion barrels produced in the United States.

This represents a ten-year change in annual production of 70.8 percent, which is high but well under the national increase of 106.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania currently has reserves of 16 million barrels, while national reserves are at 44,191 million barrels.

The state is currently home to three of the nation’s 129 operating refineries.

Finally, per capita oil consumption in Pennsylvania is 15.5 barrels, which is under the national average of 22.8 barrels.

The number one state in the nation based on annual oil production is Texas, with 1.776 billion barrels.
