New COVID-19 Case Percentages Continue to Drop in Delaware County

Once again, there was a dramatic decrease in the percentages of new COVID-19 cases reported in Delaware County’s Zip codes for the week prior to May 12, write Sean Adams and Megan Lavey-Heaton for the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

Several  weeks ago, increases were at 5% or above for several Zip codes. Two weeks ago, percentages were still at 3% or above in a few places.

For this past week, there were no increases above 2% and most Zip codes had a 1% increase or less.

Five Zip codes had increases of 2%. 

Twenty-three Zip codes had increases at 1%.

Seven had no percentage increase at all.

There was one anomaly. Zip code 19017 (Chester Heights) reported a 10% increase, with 2 new cases for a total of 23.

The five Zip codes showing the largest increase of 2% as of the week of May 12 are:

  • 19043 Holmes, 2% 4 new cases 253 total.
  • 19079 Sharon Hill 2% 17 new cases 816 total.
  • 19342 Glen Mills 2% 22 new cases 1,463 total.
  • 19013 Chester Township, Chester, Eddystone 2% 48 new cases 3,109 total.
  • 19022 Crum Lynne, Chester, Eddystone 2 % 8 new cases 331 total.

The seven Zip codes showing statistically no percent increases are:

  • 19010 Bryn Mawr 0% 2 new cases 1,146 total.
  • 19063 Glen Riddle, Elwyn Garden City, Media, Rose Valley 11 new cases 2,555 total.
  • 19074 Norwood 1 new case 544 total.
  • 19081 Swarthmore 1 new case 551 total.
  • 19085 Villanova 0 new cases 377 total.
  • 19319 Cheyney 0% 0 new cases 22 total.
  • 19373 Thornton 1 new case 302 total.

These latest numbers are compiled by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
