This Local ‘Santa Claus’ Brings Holiday Gift to Restaurant Workers

By

Brittany Scharr is doing a little Santa Claus-ing this holiday season on behalf of restaurant workers in Media, reports Becca Hendrickson for 6abc.com.

Saturday, Dec. 26, was her 91st visit to a Media restaurant to surprise a worker with a $100 gift.

The philanthropic work started after the state issued a recent second ban on indoor dining because of rising COVID cases.

A former restaurant worker, Scharr understood what that meant.

“It was really heavy on my heart from being in the industry for so long and still having so many friends inside the industry, knowing they were struggling from the original shutdown,” said Scharr, who lives in Media.

She planned to raise $1,200 and gift 12 servers $100 each for the 12 days of Christmas.

Then the Media community got wind of her work. Now, there’s more than $12,605 to give out.

Scharr extending the gifting at least until Jan. 4 when the dining ban is supposed to be lifted.

“$100 cash can’t pay someone’s rent but it can make someone feel valued, that they are important, that there’s a community backing them even when it doesn’t feel that way,” she said.
