Mail-in ballots will likely dominate this year’s election as people exercise caution in voting, but that doesn’t mean crowds won’t still gather on Election Day, writes Abraham Gutman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

As Delaware County puts out a call for more poll workers Nov. 3, many of the county’s long-time poll workers will be in place, ready to guide the electorate.

Jeffrey Jones, 50, of Drexel Hill is a registered Republican who’s been working the polls since 2017.

His day job is with outdoor media.

He’s putting COVID-19 worries aside to carry out his duties.

“Somebody’s got to be there, the doors have to open and the polls have to be open, so there was no backing out — whether I was comfortable or uncomfortable, that was my responsibility,” he says.

He believes every citizen needs to be part of the process.

Part of that is getting involved, understanding what goes on before and after you vote.

“It is a community thing. It is a way to meet your neighbors and get to know your neighbors and get a sense of your community.” He says.
