After 80 years, Charlie’s Hamburgers new place is still the same hamburger joint you’ve always known, even if it is slinging burgers at a small shopping strip instead of at its 30-year location on Kedron Avenue, writes Kevin Tustin for Daily Times.

The hamburger institution has been at 237 E. MacDade Blvd. since April 2019 when owner Tim Blackburn bought the business out from his stepfather, Steve McDonald.

The newer location is about a mile away from its old spot.

“Business has been very good,” said Blackburn, 28. “When we first moved we were so busy we had a line out the door the whole day.”

Customers have been gobbling up the same hamburger recipe that has created generations of fans. The food hasn’t changed with the move, except for adding French fries to the menu. In the old spot, there wasn’t enough space to accommodate fries.

Blackburn wanted Charlie’s to stay in Ridley.

“It’s a fixture of the township, of generations of people coming here and sharing memories here. That’s what a lot of people are actually upset about, the loss of the memories,” said Blackburn. “I’m looking forward to making new memories with new customers.”
