Vince Covello, a Springfield native who grew up in Haverford, earned his first Web.com Tour title at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open last weekend, according to a report from PGATour.com.

The Web.com Tour is the developmental tour for the PGA Tour, and features pro golfers who have either not yet reached the PGA Tour or who have done so, but then failed to win enough points to stay at that level.

Covello, who attended Episcopal Academy before moving to Florida for his senior year of high school, surpassed 54-hole leader Justin Lower in the playoff with a birdie after both players achieved par on the first two holes. The playoff was on the 18th hole at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club after both golfers ended regulation play at 19-under 265.

Covello emerged triumphant.

“It’s unbelievable,” he said. “I wasn’t sure this day would ever come. I feel blessed to be here and lucky that I got it done. It was certainly a crazy finish there at the end. I pulled everything out that I could and it ended up being enough.”

The University of North Florida alum has played golf for the past 15 years at various levels. He has also been playing full time on the Web.com Tour for the last two years. Prior to his win, he had two career finishes in the Top 10 in 79 career starts.
