Frank Kelly, Collingdale’s 12-term mayor and favorite son, has died at the age of 84, writes Vinny Vella for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kelly was in the first year of his latest four-year term as mayor of the small borough, where his life’s work was to serve its people.

“He was always straight to the point with everyone; sometimes you liked it, sometimes you didn’t,” said John Hewlings, Collingdale’s borough manager. “But he always had what he thought was the best for the borough.”

Even as Kelly battled health issues, he made regular trips to Borough Hall, the building he saved from demolition.

“There wasn’t an event that took place that he wasn’t somehow involved in organizing,” Hewlings said. “It was just the way he was.”
