Roadrunner50Plus is a unique program designed to prevent baby-boomers from making the wrong entrepreneurial choices, writes Diane Mastrull for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I know of too many instances where older adults had an idea, a dream, a passion, and made mistakes that could have been avoided if they had somebody at the outset advising them,” said founder Richard J. “Rick” Anthony Sr.

The program, which is currently accepting applicants for its inaugural class of 15, is designed to help people over 50 assess whether they should be considering entrepreneurship.

Anthony believes that the term entrepreneur is widely misunderstood and is often confused with innovation. But it is, in fact, quite different from the jobs boomers are familiar with.

“Many of them are coming out of Corporate America,” said Lonnie Sciambi, managing director and CEO of Small Business Force. “This ain’t Corporate America.”

The $2,500 Roadrunner50Plus program will last for seven weeks at the Blank Rome law firm in Center City. Depending on demand, some sessions may also be held in the suburbs.

“There are a number of people who have been very successful in the corporate world who haven’t necessarily had, or had to use, those kinds of skills,” said Anthony.
