Located in Chester, Widener University is a private university that connects curricula to social issues through civic engagement. Dynamic teaching, active scholarship, personal attention, leadership development, and experiential learning are key components of the Widener experience. The university is comprised of eight schools and colleges that offer curricula leading to associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

Director of Major Gifts

This position works with development staff responsible for the management of donor relationships that support the mission of Widener University. He/she increases the number and size of major gifts ($25,000 to $500,000) to achieve success. The person plans and implements cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship events and activities for major gifts donors.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field and five or more years of successful major gift experience. He/she will have the ability to plan and execute multiple complex projects simultaneously under time and budget limitations. Experience with professional fundraising or with a capital campaign is desired.

Director of Communications

This position identifies trends, challenges, and emerging issues within the higher education arena and works with the Office of the President to recognize external communications opportunities and solutions, and executes appropriate strategies to support them. He/she directs high-level communication with external media organizations to obtain optimum media coverage for the university. The person is the face of the university with members of the media, campus constituents, and the public.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, though an advanced degree is preferred. He/she will have a minimum of eight years of related experience, preferably some of it within higher education. The person will have a strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve substantive national media coverage in a competitive communications environment.

Administrative Assistant (Student Life)

This position provides a variety of secretarial and administrative duties in the Office of Student Life. He/she assists in the preparation of reports, projects, and budgets, and in operations management. The person answers telephone inquiries, sorts and distributes mail and packages, and works collaboratively with a wide variety of key constituents in multiple units and departments.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree. He/she will have five to seven years of secretarial experience in a service-oriented environment, or any combination of experience, training, or education that provides the necessary skills and knowledge.
