Villanova University Art Gallery is hosting a solo exhibition of Delaware County artist George H. Rothacker, writes Brian Bingaman for 21st Century Media.

The renowned artist has spent a quarter-century finding inspiration from historic Pennsylvania movie theaters, the street life of Havana in Cuba, and from beloved films. Those subjects are just part of the 54 acrylic paintings presented in “The Diverse Artistic Universe of George H. Rothacker,” on display until July 28.

Rothacker, a 1965 graduate of Upper Darby High School, describes the connection between his painting and the business of creating logos, websites, and ad campaigns as symbiotic.

“Art is art. Design is design. Storytelling is part of everything I do,” he said.

One of his series, “Social Conflicts in America,” explores arguments over some of the most polarizing issues in the country. Also on display is his “20th Century American Writers,” which includes portraits of William Burroughs and Eudora Welty, among others.

There is a free public reception and refreshments with the artist on June 10 at 5 PM in the gallery on the second floor of the Connelly Center at 800 Lancaster Ave.
